A project of Earth Island Institute [www.earthisland.org]

Part of Earth Island Institute, Ric O’Barry’s Dolphin Project seeks to end the slaughter and exploitation of dolphins around the world. Over the past 40 years, Ric O’Barry has rescued and rehabilitated dolphins all over the world, including Haiti, Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Brazil, the Bahamas Islands and the United States. He is a leading voice in the fight to end brutal dolphin hunts in Japan, the Solomon and Faroe Islands. To that end, The Dolphin Project had two of its most important victories to date in 2010: raising awareness – and international condemnation – of the brutal slaughter taking place along the coast of Japan, and successfully negotiating an end to dolphin hunting in the Solomon Islands. Singapore
Resorts World Sentosa, located in Singapore, has been targeted by Ric and the Dolphin Project Team with the purchase of 27 dolphins caught in the waters of the Solomon Islands. Two of these dolphins have already perished, and the rest are being held in the Philippines, slated for a life of imprisonment and suffering in captivity. Ric has offered to rehabilitate and release them back into their native waters, but has met with opposition from the company. With the help of our partners in Singapore, ACRES and their outstanding Saddest Dolphin campaign, we are continuing the fight against corporate greed and ethical insensitivity. Follow our progress in the articles below, and stay tuned for further developments.
We urge you to take action to help! Sign these petitions from Change.org, and one from the folks at Avaaz.org.
